Lab Science Award

Toolpoint-Hirschmann Lab Science Award

The Toolpoint–Hirschmann Lab Science Award recognises strong and outstanding bachelor’s theses whose results are relevant to laboratory science and diagnostics. With this award, we pursue two main goals.

First, we aim to underline the importance of broad, high-quality education for the long-term success of a country. This is why the award focuses on bachelor’s degrees rather than master’s or doctoral research.

Second, we seek to increase the visibility of Lab Science. Today, almost no product reaches the market without laboratory equipment — and not only in the biopharmaceutical industry. Without lab science, there would be no research and development and no quality control across most industries.

In the era of personalised healthcare and targeted medicine, therapeutic decisions are increasingly impossible without diagnostics and biomarker analytics.

In environmental analysis, laboratory instrumentation plays a crucial role in the identification and quantification of pollutants such as PFAS. Likewise, lab science enables the detection of food adulteration and harmful toxins in products ranging from baby food to wine.

Lab Science is a high-tech industry that depends on highly skilled people to drive innovation and long-term success. It is a key growth sector, offering significant opportunities for motivated professionals and entrepreneurs alike.
